Drug Alcohol Treatment Options In Florida
Substance Abuse treatment has gone through several metamorphoses, from viewing substance abuse as an illness such as pneumonia to viewing it as a chronic disease requiring constant care and attention. To address these changes, and to accommodate the ever growing need for individuals to live at home, based upon insurance requirements, expanded outpatient programs were developed.
Treatment Alternatives understands the pressures, dangers, and opportunities for relapse that exist within the context of outpatient treatment. SAMHSA, the government’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration in conjunction with the Joint Commission and the American Society of Addiction Medicine have defined the structure for optimum outpatient substance abuse programs. We adhere to those parameters.
Treatment Alternatives offers clients a step down approach easing the flow through the entire substance abuse treatment protocol. This approach promotes a continued connection to a support group, a guiding structure, consistent treating therapists, and physicians. The continuum of care model–detoxes through to structured supervised sober living facilities — defines Treatment Alternatives’ philosophy and its use of best practices.
Treatment Alternatives’ Step-Down Program
Partial Hospitalization Program: Our PHP program provides clients with 28 days or more of alcohol or drug abuse treatment. That means each client receives 6 hours of group treatment a day — 7 days a week. Treatment is further enhanced with one hour long individual therapy sessions once a week. Every client meets with the same therapist from beginning to the end of his or her treatment program.
Intensive Outpatient: Clients who are no longer in need of the same supervision provided immediately after detox and during PHP move into the IOP program. Depending upon the treatment plan, clients have the option of treatment 5 days a week or 3 days a week. In IOP, clients begin to resume daily activities, attend 12 Step meetings and receive 3 hours of group treatment a day (5 or 3 days a week) as well as one individual therapy session a week. Those clients that complete the PHP will retain the same therapist as part of the continuum of care approach in IOP.
Each client receives:
- Individual and Group sessions
- Substance abuse education
- Relapse Prevention
- 12 Step Principles and meetings
- Gender-specific workshops 3 times a week
- Holistic Therapies (Yoga, Acupuncture, Art Therapy, Exercise/Recreational, Nutritional Counseling, Spiritual work if desired)
- Family Program
- Aftercare plan
*Supervised housing is available for clients who have that need.
Outpatient: We boast of having the best sober living facilities. Our residence can receive outpatient (OP) treatment while living in a structured supervised substance abuse free environment. When a client participates in the outpatient patient program, he or she attends 12 step meeting both at the facility and outside, receives group, family or individual counseling for 90 minutes once a week. Transportation to and from meetings is available.
Family Program: Everyone in the family suffers when one member of the family is an alcoholic or drug addict. Substance abuse is considered a family disease. To address all the issues affecting a member of the family, it is best to address the entire family dynamic. Once every six weeks, Treatment Alternatives hold a formal family program weekend. During the weekend, families listen to lectures by the Lead Physician and the Clinical Director about substance abuse, co-dependency and family dynamics. Every aspect of the disease is explored. After the lecture/education portion, the family moves through a series of experiential techniques, such as art therapy, as well as a private family counseling session. Family counseling is available by phone for those times when direct conversation is necessary, but travel is not possible.

Best-known song: “Clarity,” Heather McCready
Production philosophy: “People call me mainly for acoustic music, and that’s my forte,” Deering said. “If an artist comes in and they have a really good song, it plays itself. There is not a lot that you need to do to it. Giving attention to the song, the detail of the song itself, is the most important thing. I try to find the strengths that each individual artist has and I try to build on that. I use their strengths to build on my strengths.”
Instruments: Acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar, viola, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, five-string banjo, bass, electronic programming
Caliber of recording artists in Dallas-Fort Worth: “We have exceptional caliber here. It is unfortunate that Dallas isn’t recognized as one of the serious music towns like Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles. If you look at the list of artists that have left Dallas to have a career, it’s quite impressive.”
Career highlight: “I just finished recording with Don Henley a country CD last summer. It will be a solo and duets country CD. I played steel guitar, fiddle and mandolin. I also toured with LeAnn Rimes for four years and played on five of her albums.”
